In our second installment of The Iowa Tapes, fiction writer Thomas Gebremedhin reads from his short story “Housewarming” in a warm home at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. Gebremedhin also treated us to a reading from W Magazine, giving a quote from Denzel Washington new literary life. “You don’t have to watch other people cut hair to be good at cutting hair,” Washington says, and Gebremedhin agrees. But we don’t think the same applies to fiction writing. The way Gebremedhin reads his story shows there’s something to hearing the author’s intent come through in their voice. Watch this high-low dual reading and see.
